Won By One

The Christian life is a daily struggle to succeed. An uphill road with countless

obstacles. A minefield of temptations, tragedies, and trials. But the truth is quite

simple. Every day we make small choices which affirm our allegiance and determine

our direction. Tiny turns transport our lives toward trouble or triumph. In a sense,

we are won by one.

One insignificant flaw. One indescretion. One moment of weakness. One impurity. One

slight imperfection. One feeble fib. One little lie. One moral meltdown. One slip of

the tongue. One lingering leer. One tempting touch. One tantalizing taste. One sumptuous

smell. One overheard word.

One small step. One short stop. One stiff drink. One tiny pill. One embezzled dollar.

One impure thought. One midnight fantasy. One centerfold. One internet site. One joke.

One morsel of gossip. One curse word. One temper tantrum. One slap. One night stand.

One day without Scripture and prayer. One morning at the office. One afternoon at the

bar. One night in a car. One day of thousands. One temptation. One chance. One sensual

word. One gruesome act. One wrong move. One bad day. One ugly scene. One is the lonliest

number. One by one, we are won by one.

One more day. One prayer. One thought of God. One right choice. One victory. One sacrificial

act. One compassionate deed. One loving look. One joyous jump. One parcel of peace. One

patient moment. One kind word. One good gesture. One faithful friend. One disciplined day.

One worshipful week. One blessed month. One holy year.

One bold belief. One contrite confession. One repentant response. One immersed soul. One

church. One Spirit. One Lord. One faith. One baptism. One hope. One commitment. One taste of

God's grace. One by one, we are won by one.
